Alphabets to words

Its only words
And words are all I have,
To take your heart away....

Ah! The power of words. It simply amazes me that you can conjure up an image so vivid or evoke an emotion so true and deep or simply tickle your brain all with the apt choice of words and effective use of similies and metaphors.

Doondtha hoon tumhe har raah mein har mehfil mein
Thak gaye hain meri majboor tamanna ke kadam
Aaj ka din meri ummeed ka hai aakhri din
Kal na jaane main kahan aur kahan tu ho sanam

- Shakil badayuni

I cant think of a better way to express the hankering. [Add to it the magic of Rafi saab's voice, one shall end up longing for even a non-existent beloved!]

Or try this,

Hum to ghar se nikle hi the baandhkar sar pe kafan
Jaan hatheli par liye lo barh chale hain ye qadam
Zindagi to apni mehmaan maut ki mehfil mein hai
Sarfaroshi ki tamanna ab hamaare dil mein hai

- Bismil

'Zindagi to apni mehmaan maut ki mehfil mein hai'. Can you fathom the depth of passion here?

Words are but a string of alphabets! But poetry is more than just stringing words together. And here I am at loss of words. I salute all those who can write meaningful, beautiful verses.
